Sunday, April 13, 2025 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm
Digital Media Lab
In this workshop, Victor will present a visual vocabulary for understanding computers and the internet as it is today.
We will explore a timeline of important telecommunication events like the installation of transatlantic cables to the development of fiber optic internet and national access. We will especially breakdown computer science topics like direct current, alternating current, series, and parallel, as they relate to how wires transmit signals, how wires become twisted pairs and cables, how fiber optic isn’t electric, and how all of these build access to the internet through servers, modems, routers, and personal computers.
Though it might seem intimidating, this workshop will use as many visuals as possible to show what is happening between computers and the internet today, with examples from what you are most likely to encounter at home and in the office!
