Library EventTaking Root: Kids Discover Anne Frank in Iowa

On April 29, 2022, the University of Iowa will welcome a remarkable new tree to the Pentacrest: a sapling propagated from the old chestnut tree that grew behind the Amsterdam annex where Anne Frank and her family hid for 716 days during the Holocaust.

Kids and families, join us for a film screening about the life of Anne Frank, which we know about today from her famous diary. Following the film, help the library create a collaborative art installation by decorating a leaf with your reflections on peace, hope, and Anne's resilient spirit.

Participants can also take home a kit that includes supplies to make their own diary, a booklist, more information for kids on Anne Frank and a map with the other locations of saplings in the U.S.
