Tech Zone @ Pepperwood starts June 5


Iowa City Public Library Tech Zone at Pepperwood The Iowa City Public Library’s free computer access site at the Pepperwood Plaza Police Substation is on spring break during the month of May, and will return this summer, on June 5, with special events, storytimes, classes and more.

Do you need FREE access to a computer? Do you have technology questions? Need help with a portable device? Want to write or tweak a resume? Learn how to use Google Docs? Or maybe you are curious about Library eBook collections? This summer Iowa City Public Library takes its popular Tech Zone on the road to YOUR neighborhood.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1 to 4 p.m., Library staff will set-up a Library Tech Zone at the Pepperwood Plaza Police Substation, 1067 Highway 6 East in Iowa City. Ten computers with Internet access are available as well as wireless Internet access. Librarians will also be on hand to assist if needed.

Iowa City Public Library Tech Zone at Pepperwood There will also be a number of special events planned at the Tech Zone this summer. A special summer kick-off event will be held Tuesday, June 5 beginning at 1 p.m. featuring face painting, refreshments and video games. Sign-up for the Library’s Summer Reading Program at the Tech Zone starting June 5 and receive a special gift.

Two special Children’s Storytimes will be offered at Tech Zone @ Pepperwood this summer:
Tuesday, June 26, with special guest Iowa City Police Officer Jorey Bailey
Tuesday, July 17.
Both programs are at 2 p.m.

Computer Classes will be offered on the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. The following classes will be offered at Tech Zone @ Pepperwood this summer:
June 7 – Google Docs
July 5 – Facebook
August 2 – eBooks and eAudiobooks

On Thursdays the Tech Zone will also feature video games for teens.

Tech Zone summer hours will wrap up on August 9 with an end of summer event including prizes for everyone who turned in their Summer Reading Program form at the Tech Zone @ Pepperwood. Sign up for Summer Reading Programs at the Pepperwood Plaza Police Substation during Tech Zone hours, complete your Reading Task Sheet, turn it back in at Tech Zone @ Pepperwood, and be entered into a drawing for a new Kindle Fire eReader. The drawing will be held on August 9. You need not be present to win.

On Tuesday, August 14, Tech Zone @ Pepperwood hours will switch to a fall schedule; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-6 p.m.
