Get on the Summer Library Bus

Last year, the Library provided 1,126 free bus rides to the Library on the Summer Library Bus. Beginning Tuesday, June 5, the Iowa City Public Library will once again provide free Iowa City Transit bus rides to the Library to children to help them keep the reading habit over the summer.

This special program will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (non-peak hours). The buses stop at the downtown interchange at Old Capitol Town Center, just three blocks from the Library. The Library Bus runs from June 5 through Aug. 9, 2012. Children through grade 12, and the adult caregivers with them, can get on any inbound IC Transit bus free during the specified times by showing an Iowa City Public Library card. Ride home free anytime the same day with a Ride & Read Bus Pass available at the Library. An ICPL library card is required to obtain a bus pass for the ride home (limit two per week).

The Library Bus expands the Library’s outreach services to children. The summer months away from school can result in a loss of reading skills and the Library wants to make it easier for kids to keep reading. Many activities in the Library’s Summer Reading Programs for teens and children are scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
