When the wave of urban renewal arrived in Iowa City in the late 1960s, Dr. Oscar Beasley took notice and began photographing the downtown area's oldest buildings. He continued to document downtown well into the 1980s. In this program, Beasley and his son John compare the original images to new images taken in 2017 and 2018.
This program is part of ICPL's Weber Days, a series of Local History programs and events honoring the memory and work of Iowa City Historian Irving B. Weber.
Recorded on May 12, 2018 at the Iowa City Public Library.
