Up until 1993, Iowa was devoted to an unusual form of women's sport known as 6-on-6 girls' basketball. To mark the 25th anniversary of the final season, Iowa Women's Archives staff and UI American Studies faculty have curated a travelling exhibition “6-on-6 Basketball and the Legacy of Girls' and Women's Sport in Iowa.” Join Archives curator Kären Mason and American Studies faculty member Jennifer Sterling to learn about the history of this game, hear stories of girls who played it, and reflect on its significance for girls and women across Iowa.
This program is part of ICPL's Weber Days, a series of Local History programs and events honoring the memory and work of Iowa City historian Irving B. Weber.
Recorded on May 9, 2018 at the Iowa City Public Library.
