Presented by local historian Tom Schulein, "The Remarkable Irish Family" tells the story of the patriarch Frederick Macy Irish, best known as "Captain" Irish, and the notable lives of some of his children and grandchildren.
Long-time Iowa City residents have probably heard of “Captain Irish,” but what do we really know about him? In 2000, a new road, the "Captain Irish Parkway" was built to join Scott Boulevard and North Dodge Street/Hwy 1, but the name changed to Scott Boulevard before the road opened. This presentation traces the history of Frederick Macy Irish and his remarkable family.
