Eric Tvedte, graduate assistant at the UI Department of Biology, discusses the history of genetic testing in criminal cases, and how DNA and genealogical data can be combined to crack cold cases (recently featured in the Golden State killer case). Anya Prince, associate professor at the UI Department of Law, surveys major technical and legal issues surrounding the use of direct-to-consumer genetic testing data such as AncestryDNA or 23andMe to identify crime suspects.
