Sunday, March 9, 2025 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Certified arborist Nic McGrath, the field coordinator at TreesForever, will be here to present a program on the ways invasive species negatively effect biodiversity in ecosystems by competing for nutrients, light and water; causing changes to an ecosystem by sprouting earlier, growing faster or taller than natives; or by attracting pollinators away from natives.
This year Nick led the Eastern Iowa TreeKeepers 2024 Spring Course, a six-week program covering tree advocacy, biology, identification, maintenance, pests and pruning. Previously, he was a retail nursery manager and worked for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources where he collaborated with private landowners, cities and counties across east central Iowa recovering from the historic derecho and replanting for the future. Outside of work, Nick is a cross-country track and soccer coach, husband, father and caregiver to many Redbud cultivars.
This live event will also be streamed live on the Library's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/thelibrarychannel
The Second Sunday Garden Forums are cosponsored by Project GREEN and the Iowa City Public Library.
