The Iowa City Public Library’s Art Advisory Committee is looking for new members. The Committee is made up of six members and terms run for three years (this term would end in April 2020). Candidates must reside in Iowa City or rural Johnson County, and are appointed to the Committee by the Library Board. Library employees are not eligible for appointment. Ideal candidates are individuals involved and interested in the arts community in some way — artists, framers, instructors, students, gallery employees, collectors and serious enthusiasts.

Here’s a novel idea: take the night off from preparing dinner and go out to eat. Better yet, have dinner out and support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation at the same time. The Foundation has partnered with local restaurants for a new fundraising program: Eat Out to Read. On Wednesday, June 7, dine at Motley Cow Café at 160 N Linn St. anytime between 5 and 9 p.m., and a percentage of your tab will be given to the Friends Foundation. The Iowa City Public Library will host its annual Teen Anime & Manga Festival from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, in the Koza Family Teen Center. There’s no school that day. Open to students in grades 7-12, this festival is an opportunity for teens to interact with fellow anime and manga enthusiasts, watch anime, discuss manga and draw fan art.

Come to Hy-Vee Drugstore/Wine & Spirits, 310 N 1st Avenue, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 17, for a wine and craft beer tasting fundraiser to benefit the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation. Adult beverage distributors will offer samples of their products at this drop-in event. Stop by to visit with friends as you try something new. The beverage tasting is free. Hy-Vee will donate 5 percent of the evening’s sales to the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation. Attendees must be 21 and older to participate.

Join the national movement to make math the cool thing to do after school by attending Iowa City Public Library’s Crazy 8s Math Club. This fun and educational program for elementary students in kindergarten through second grade meets from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Storytime Room every Tuesday. Crazy 8s from the Bedtime Math Foundation is designed to get kids fired up about math. Participants will build things, run and jump, make music – even make a mess – while making new friends and increasing their understanding of math.
