The Iowa City Public Library is introducing a new streaming digital library collection with over a million titles and which Collection Services Coordinator Anne Mangano calls “a game changer."

The annual Inservice Day is an opportunity for all Library staff to attend training and discussions designed to improve services for patrons.  Staff recognition is also part of the Library’s annual Inservice. Library employees will be recognized for every five years of service. This year, eight staff members will be honored for their service, ranging from five years to 20 years at the Library. Together they represent 105 cumulative years of library service.

The Iowa City Public Library's Friends Foundation will host its very popular Arts and Crafts Bazaar through the end of December. This year due to COVID-19 precautions, the event will be hosted online. The fundraiser is in its ninth year and is made possible by the generous donations of local artists and crafters. Cheryl Hetherington, who donated items for the Bazaar says, “I love the Library, and I love to do art. It seems like the perfect mixture to share those loves with you all.”

The Iowa City Public Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wed, Nov 24, 2021, and the Library will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday.  The Library will resume regular hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26. The Iowa City Public Library will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11. The Library will be closing early and the ICPL's Bookmobile will not be in service in honor of Veterans Day. Local Libraries LIT opens the second season with New York Times bestselling author Sloane Crosley Nov. 9 Sloane Crosley, a fiercely funny author and essayist who the New York Times called, “an incisive observer of human nature,” will be the fourth speaker in the Local Libraries LIT (Listen, Initiate, Talk) series.

The Iowa City Public Library officially launched its new catalog on Tuesday, Oct. 26,  2021. The new catalog offers several enhancements to provide a tailored search experience to Library patrons. Library staff used patron feedback to build the catalog and created one of the few in-house catalogs in the nation. This is the community’s catalog, built specifically for Iowa City by dedicated ICPL staff.
