The Iowa City Public Library has partnered with The Iowa City Autism Community to host free a screening of Boss Baby from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, in the Storytime Room. The room and movie screening will be as accommodating of sensory needs as possible. This movie will only be open to individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. No sign up is necessary to attend. For more information, call the Library at 319-356-5200.

All of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun on Monday, August 21. Anyone within the path of totality, which stretches from will stretch from Lincoln Beach, Ore. to Charleston, S.C., will see a total solar eclipse. Observers outside this path, including those in Iowa City, will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk. The Iowa City Public Library will celebrate with several programs for children and adults.

The Iowa City Public Library will begin accepting artwork for the 2017 Art Purchase Prize, with winning pieces added to the Art-To-Go collection, on September 1. The competition is open to artists over the age 18 who live/work/exhibit in the Iowa City or the Johnson County area, and have participated in at least one juried or judged competition. Library employees and their immediate family are ineligible for entry.

The Iowa City Public Library will host a Teen Drag Show from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 4, in Meeting Room A. This free teen-friendly performance will feature local drag kings and queens, but with a twist. Teens who want to perform are welcome to participate, too -- solo or as group with friends. Anything from a feather boa or necktie to completely decked out will be welcome. Teen programs are for students in seventh through 12th grades. Dan Wardell, the popular host of IPTV KIDS Clubhouse, will be at the Iowa City Public Library on Thursday, July 13, as part of his 11th annual Iowa Public Television’s Reading Road Trip. Wardell will travel to 24 local communities this summer to share an original, interactive story with kids and families. As he has in the past, Wardell will encourage kids to turn their TVs off, read a good book, go outside and play, use their imaginations, and eat healthy foods.

The Iowa City Public Library’s Bookmobile will not be in service on Wednesday, July 12, due to schedule maintenance and warranty work. A Library staff member will be available at scheduled stops for Holds pickup. Stories in the Park, held at 10:30 a.m. that day in Wetherby Park, 2398 Taylor Drive in Iowa City, will go on as scheduled. Becky with West Music will offer a special musical program that teaches fundamentals of rhythm, basic motor function, mental dexterity, healthy emotional expression, sociability, and much, much more.

Here’s a novel idea: take the night off from preparing dinner and go out to eat. Better yet, have dinner out and support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation at the same time. The Foundation has partnered with local restaurants for a new fundraising program: Eat Out to Read. Each Monday in July from 4 to 11 p.m., mention Iowa City Public Library while dining in or taking out at Pagliai’s Pizza, 302 E. Bloomington St., and the Library will receive 25 percent of your total.
