Two of the greatest words in the English language join together for one great event: Book Sale. The Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation will host a Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, and from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, February 25, in Meeting Room A. Featuring “Pay What You Want” prices on everything from fiction and cookbooks, to nonfiction, DVDs, art books, young adult and children’s books, everyone is sure to find something.

The Iowa City Public Library is in the running for the best library in the United States! Presented by Engaging Local Government Leaders (ELGL), the Leslie B. Knope Award is meant to highlight “organizations and individuals that motivate, inspire and attract the best and brightest to local government.” ICPL was one of nearly 90 public libraries initially nominated for the award, which is named after local government champion Leslie B. Knope on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation.” Knope is played by actress Amy Poehler.

Come to Hy-Vee Drugstore/Wine & Spirits, 310 N First Avenue, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 16, for a wine and craft beer tasting fundraiser to benefit the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation. Adult beverage distributors will offer free samples of wine, beer and spirits at this drop-in event for Library friends, the public, and members of the HyVee Wine Tasting Club. Stop by to visit with friends as you try something new. HyVee will donate a percentage of the evening’s sales to the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation.

Cabin fever got you down? Bring the family to the Iowa City Public Library for Sunday Fun Day, every Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.   Sunday Fun Day features fun activities for families to enjoy together. Thursday, February 1, 7 to 9:30 p.m. in Meeting Room A: Film Screening – August Wilson’s “Fences” Set in 1950s Pittsburgh, the film adaptation of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play takes a passionate look at former baseball player Troy Maxson as he fights to provide for those he loves in a world that threatens to push him down.

Here’s a novel idea: take the night off from preparing dinner and go out to eat. Better yet, have dinner out and support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation at the same time. The Foundation has partnered with local restaurants for a new fundraising program: Eat Out to Read. On Monday, January 22, dine at the new VUE Restaurant at the top of the Hilton Garden Inn, 328 S Clinton St, Iowa City, between 4 and 10 p.m., and a percentage of your food and non-alcoholic beverage sales will be given to the Friends Foundation.
