Does scanning old photos and organizing digital photos seem like a big task? The Iowa City Public Library can help! Join us for a month full of classes dedicated to preserving your memories. Learn how to use the Library’s scanners to digitize your printed photo collections. Bring a stack of photos and a USB or other device to save your pictures. This class will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

During the first week of March, the Iowa City Public Library will have user surveys available to gauge how patrons use ICPL and its services. A paper survey will be available at the Library for two sporadic hours each day March 1 through March 7. This is the first user survey the Library has presented to the public since 2012. Information from the last survey was used to develop the Library’s strategic plan. The new survey will be used to update that plan in order to best serve the community.

Mark your calendars now for the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation’s Big Book Bash at Big Grove Brewery. This all-ages event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at the Brewery, 1225 S. Gilbert St. Library lovers are invited to come, eat and talk all things books, including how support from the community makes ICPL better. The Bookmobile will be on site for tours and there will be opportunities to win prizes, too. Donations of gently read children's books will be accepted for The Book End store inside the ICPL.

Celebrate no school on Wednesday, February 28, by attending the Library's Anime Cosplay Tea Party from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Teen Center. In celebration of the new anime season, we will watch anime, sip tea, and snack on treats just like those seen in “Black Butler,” “Tokyo Ghoul” and “Ouran Host Club.” There will be games and a prize for the best cosplay, so be sure to wear your finest anime-inspired cosplay -- but you can come as you are, too. The Iowa City Public Library will participate in the Archives Crawl on Saturday, February 24. Learn more about local resources and archival items available at the Library in the newly expanded Computer Lab from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day. Library staff and speakers from local historical groups, including Friends of Historic Preservation, the Johnson County Historical Society and Historic Foodies, will share insights into collecting and preserving history. The Iowa City Public Library recently added Nintendo Switch to its young adult and juvenile video game collection. Nintendo Switch is designed to go wherever gamers go, with the ability to transform from home console to portable system. The games join others in the Library’s collection, which includes Nintendo Wii and Wii U, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and Sony Playstation 3 and Playstation 4.

TAG, the Iowa City Public Library’s Teen Activity Group, is looking for new members. TAG is open to students in grades 7 through 12. TAG members help plan teen programs and give teenage students a voice in the Library. Anyone wanting to make a difference in the Library, and earn volunteer hours at the same time, should give TAG a try.
