Library EventWorld Wednesday: German Schultüte

Color our world, and celebrate diverse cultures from around the globe! Every Wednesday during our Summer Reading Program, elementary-age kids are invited to join us for a new event where they can explore and experience unique cultures and traditions from different countries.

It's only a few weeks away from the new school year! Isn't that exciting? Or you just feel a little nervous? Do you know that in Germany there is a unique back-to-school routine that children are gifted a Schultüte to make this anxiously awaited first day of school a little sweeter? A Schultüte ("school cone") is a large cone-shaped, cornucopia-styled container attractively decorated and filled with toys, school supplies, and other special treats. It is given to students by family and friends as encouragement for the long academic road ahead. Join us today making your own Schultüte ("school cone"), fill it up with treats and supplies, and take it home as your special back-to-school celebration!

还有几周就要开始新的学年了！在这激动人心的时候，是不是感觉到有点紧张？你知道吗，在德国有这样一个独特的返校惯例，孩子们在期待已久的开学第一天都会收到一份 Schultüte （开学甜筒），给他们的焦急等待增添一丝甜蜜。Schultüte（“开学甜筒”）是一个装饰精美的大大的锥形圆筒，里面装满了玩具、巧克力、糖果、学习用品等礼物，像聚宝盆一样。每个学生都会在开学的时候收到家人和朋友赠送的开学甜筒，以鼓励他们未来漫长的求学道路。今天请和我们一起自己动手制作一个属于你的Schultüte（“开学甜筒”），装满零食和文具，带回家作为特别的开学庆祝吧！
