On Wednesdays during our Summer Reading Program, elementary-age kids are invited to join us for a different event every week to understand and experience cultures around the world!
It's only one month away from a brand new school year! Isn't that exciting ? Or you just feel a little nervous? Do you know that in Germany there is a unique back-to-school routine that children are gifted a Schultüte to make this anxiously awaited first day of school a little sweeter. A Schultüte ("school cone") is a large cone-shaped, cornucopia-styled container attractively decorated and filled with toys, chocolate, candies, school supplies, and various other special treats. The tradition dates back to early 19th century when children celebrated the big milestone on their first day of school upon entering first grade. These days the Schultüte is given to students of all ages by family, friends or partners as encouragement for the long academic road ahead. Join us today making a fun Schultüte ("school cone") from recycled posters, fill it up with treats and supplies, and take it home as your special back-to-school celebration!

Los miércoles durante nuestro Programa de Lectura de Verano, ¡únete a nosotros para un evento diferente cada semana y entender y experimentar culturas de todo el mundo!
¡Falta solo un mes para un nuevo año escolar! ¿No es emocionante? ¿O sientes un poco de nervios? ¿Sabías que en Alemania hay una rutina única para el regreso a clases en la que a los niños se les regala un Schultüte para hacer este esperado primer día de escuela un poco más dulce? Un Schultüte ("cono escolar") es un gran contenedor en forma de cono, estilo cornucopia, decorado de manera atractiva y lleno de juguetes, chocolate, caramelos, material escolar y varios otros regalos especiales. La tradición se remonta al siglo XIX cuando los niños celebraban el gran hito en su primer día de escuela al ingresar al primer grado. En la actualidad, el Schultüte se regala a estudiantes de todas las edades por parte de familiares, amigos o parejas como ánimo para el largo camino académico que tienen por delante. ¡Únete hoy a nosotros para hacer un divertido Schultüte ("cono escolar") con carteles reciclados, llénalo de golosinas y material escolar, y llévatelo a casa como tu celebración especial para el regreso a clases!
