Records set for eMedia use

2011 was an amazing year for our eBook and eAudio service.

OD Use of the collections increased exponentially: Each month a new record was set for the number of people who had eBooks and eAudio checked out. In December 2010, this number was around 450 people per day. In January 2012, ICPL's eMedia collection passed the 1,000 mark for the number of people with items checked out each day. This number continues to grow, and July 2011 to December 2011 eBook circulation is up 280% over last year!

Gadgets are driving eBook circulation: Compatibility with Kindles and other popular eBook readers was a driving force in gadget sales in November and December. Prices for eReaders have dropped, making them more available to more people. As more people get gadgets, more patrons start using our downloadable services.

OD ICPL's eBook and eAudio Collection is growing: We purchase many new titles each week. As of today, the Library offers 3,100 eBooks and 2,816 eAudio titles.

Convenience: Library eBooks are convenient because they are free and easy to download from any computer, any time of day.

OD Help is available at the Library: Many people are attending the Downloadable Media Classes we offer and many more are calling or coming to the Library for help. Senior Tech Zone on Thursday mornings (10:30-12:30) is busy and in February the Library will add more opportunities for drop-in support. Check the Online Calendar for the next opportunity to get help in one of our classes or drop-in sessions. Patrons can also stop by the Fiction Desk anytime and ask for help.

OD All genres of eBooks are popular: More Nonfiction and Children's titles are available, supplementing the already popular Fiction, Mystery and Science Fiction collections. Stieg Larsson's Millennium Series is popular in eBook and eAudio format with perennial popular titles (The Help, A Game of Thrones, and Water for Elephants) still in high demand.
