Whether you already love making digital art or you're a beginner who wants to try something new, try our Digital Creativity Challenge. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to play around with these challenges.
You'll have June and July to complete any 4 challenges. Submit your artwork to enter the drawing for a $20 Dick Blick gift card, and let us know if you want to be part of the display during the month of August. It will be fun to see what everyone made!
- Scan something surprising. What unusual 2D or 3D objects could you scan? What about moving them during the scan for weird effects?
- Create an alter-ego from a selfie. Make some dramatic changes to a photo of yourself.
- Make a digital painting. Simple to elaborate, abstract to representational, silly to serious -- anything goes!
- Alter this photo of the library
- Complete this drawing of a hawk. Here's a local version of the "Draw a duck and share your art" challenge you might have seen online.
- Make something in Canva. Create a free account for access to their templates, contemporary fonts, clip art, and stock photos.
- Create a graphic design with a word or line of poetry. Use typography, layout, and/or visual elements to convey words in an interesting way.
- Design a book cover. Recreate a favorite book cover, update the cover of an existing book, or make up an imaginary book.
- Make a meme. Use any means of typing over an image or a generator like imgflip.
- Make a 3-second video of anything.
The Digital Media Lab may not be open, but you can use our Mini DML workstation, free software, or whatever you have on hand to complete these projects. Here are some software suggestions:
- Photo editing: your phone's built-in photo app, Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, FireAlpaca, Autodesk SketchBook, MS Paint, Canva
- Video editing: your phone's built-in photo/video app for adjusting the start and end of your video, or something more advanced like Adobe Premiere Pro for further editing
- Graphic design: Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, Canva, Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, Procreate
