"Iowa City's original female soccer player" will be returning to Iowa City for the Iowa City Public Library LibCon (think ComiCon, but smaller!) event on August 10, 2024! Now an acclaimed comic book author who runs the comic imprint Alpha Girl Comic, Chu also wrote the six-issue miniseries Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death and a few Wonder Woman issues for DC, with other works out through Marvel. 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of ago Amy's Title IX lawsuit which helped to establish women's soccer in Iowa City. Amy's willingness to fight for her rights made Iowa women's soccer a reality!
The Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation will welcome Amy Chu to Iowa City for three engagements on August 10.
Amy's Iowa City engagements include:
1-2 pm Comic Making Workshop in the ICPL Koza Family Teen Center led by Amy Chu
3-4 pm Amy's keynote speech at LibCon in meeting Room ABC. Amy Chu will speak about her history with Iowa City soccer and her career as a comic book author.
7 - 9 pm The ICPL Friends Foundation will hold a private reception to celebrate her literature and contributions to soccer in Iowa City. Details are below in the RSVP.
