Bestselling author, linguist, cognitive scientist and chair of the Usage Panel of The American Heritage Dictionary Steven Pinker will begin the tour for his seventh book here at ICPL. In "The Sense of Style: The Thinking Person's Guide to Writing in the 21st Century" Pinker provides a new writing guide for the twenty-first century, containing comic strips and cartoons and examples of comically bad writing.
Pinker's formula for good writing is basic: write clearly, try to follow the rules most of the time—but only when they make sense.
Co-sponsored by ICPL, the UI Nonfiction Writing Program, and Prairie Lights.
Recorded September 22, 2015.
