Students in first through eighth grade are invited to participate in One Book Two Book’s expanded student writing project: Write Out Loud.
Write Out Loud encourages students’ writing by recognizing their creative voice. Many of the student writings will be honored at One Book Two Book’s Write Out Loud celebration on January 19.
To participate, students may submit one narrative, poem or graphic novel that is no more than one page in length, double-spaced, single-sided. The piece must be an original work, written this school year, in polished form. Submissions must include the student’s name, grade and school in the top right corner, before the title of the poem or story.
Entries must be submitted to the student’s teacher or to the Iowa Community School District’s Library Coordinator, Denise Rehmke, by November 15. Submissions can be e-mail to Rehmke at rehmke.denise@iccsd.12.ia.us.
The Iowa Youth Writing Project will host a free writing workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 2, in Meeting Room E of the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn. This workshop is designed to help students get started on their Write Out Loud entries. To register, participants should e-mail Rachael Carlson at info@cityofliteratureusa.org with their name and grade level.
The Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature’s third annual One Book Two Book children’s literature festival will be held January 17 through January 19. For more information, visit onebooktwobook.org.
