The Iowa City Public Library’s Summer Reading Program for teens – Spark a Reaction – begins June 1. Registration begins that day, too. Teens in grades seventh through 12th can register for the Summer Reading Program at the Library or online at www.icpl.org/srp.
Each participant will receive an oversized bookmark to track their progress in meeting summer reading goals. Teens can either read five books, or read three books and attend two Summer Reading Program events, to complete receive their first prize: a drawstring backpack, and coupons for free food from Hardee’s and Noodles & Company. The bookmark is then entered into a drawing for one of four prizes:
- The John Green Pack: a signed copy of Looking for Alaska and an audio book of The Fault in Our Stars.
- A Daydreams Comics gift certificate.
- A Prairie Lights gift certificate.
- A Marcus Theatres gift certificate.
Teens also will be entered into the grand prize drawing for a Kindle Fire.
Teens that complete their bookmark early can pick up a Bonus Game Card. Completing the game card will result in more entries for the grand prize.
Crafts, movies and games are included in the lineup for Summer Reading Program activities, beginning with light painting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, and ending with a Library Lock-In from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1.
