Press ReleaseICPL to Host All Iowa Reads 2016 Book Discussion

The Iowa City Public Library will host a discussion about the 2016 All Iowa Reads book, Lila by Marilynne Robinson, from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 10, in Meeting Room B.

Lila, homeless and alone after years of roaming the countryside, steps inside a small-town Iowa church - the only available shelter from the rain - and ignites a romance and a debate that will reshape her life. She becomes the wife of a minister, John Ames, and begins a new existence while trying to make sense of the life that preceded her newfound security.

Although Lila is the third book of Robinson’s Gilead trilogy, the prequel to the previously released Gilead and Home, the novel stands on its own as a powerful story of a woman who, homeless and unschooled, leads those around her from doubt and sorrow to compassion and understanding.

All Iowa Reads was established in 2003 as a way to foster a sense of unity through reading, with Iowans throughout the state coming together to read and discuss a single book title in the same year. The program is sponsored by the Iowa Center for the Book.
