January is an ideal time to reflect on the past year and to motivate yourself to make positive changes, particularly regarding the e-devices in your life. Come to the Iowa City Public Library to learn how to streamline your technology practices and incorporate healthy digital habits into your everyday life! The Library will host programs in our Digital Media Lab that will introduce you to tools and tricks to make keeping your resolutions simple and free.
Do you know how to upload or delete a batch of files or photos instead of clicking on each one? Have you ever used the “Replace All” function to fix an error you made throughout an email or other document? Do you know how to find your downloads on your computer? Join us from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, January 4, or 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, to learn the little tricks to make using your computer a little less painful.
Are you worried that your smartphone or e-device is making you more anxious or depressed? Does the constant stream of emails, texts, and news from your device add stress to your life? On Friday, January 11, from 1 to 2 p.m. and Tuesday, January 22, from 5 to 6 p.m., we will learn how to turn your smartphone or tablet into a thoughtful tool for beginning or enhancing your mindfulness and meditation practice.
Want to use the Digital Media lab at any time while the library is open? Attend a brief orientation so you can use the room’s technology to digitize your current photos, slides or VHS collections, clean up or edit digital images or video, or create new digital work such as graphics, animations and more using the Adobe Suite and Wacom tablets. You must have a valid library card.
Classes are free and space is limited, so patrons should register early. To register for classes at the Library, visit http://calendar.icpl.org/categories/classes-tech-help to register online. You can also register by calling the Library at 319-356-5200. All classes will be held in the Digital Media Lab on the second floor.
