Meeting Room A
Shakespeare on Film is a six week series of films based on the works of William Shakespeare. Scheduled to coincide with the UI Libraries hosting of "First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare," a national traveling exhibition visiting each of the 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare’s death, the First Folio is the first collected edition of Shakespeare’s plays, and will be on display at the UI Main Library from August 29 – September 25. Baz Luhrmann’s outrageous take on Shakespeare’s famous tragedy of star-crossed teenage lovers sticks to the script while wildly updating everything else, resulting in perhaps the first major post-MTV Shakespeare adaptation. Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes play the doomed yet immortal couple.
This event is open to the public.
