Storytime Recap: Things That Go

As the new ICPL Bookmobile is starting to make stops around the community, we celebrated all kinds of things that go this week in storytime. Today, as usual storytime began with our welcome song “Clap Everybody and Say Hello.” I talked a little about different ways of getting from one place to another.

We shared some stories about riding on the bus and then read our first story, My Bus by Byron Barton. Then we sang along to Raffi's "The Wheels on the Bus"

The wheels on the bus go round and round Round and round Round and round The wheels on the bus go round and round All ’round the town

The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish…. The driver on the bus goes ‘move on back’…. The people on the bus go up and down…. The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep…. The baby on the bus goes ‘whaa whaa whaa’…. The parents on the bus go ‘shh, shh, shh’….

Next we took a train trip to the zoo reading Down by the Station by Will Hillenbrand. Departing the train, we stepped onto our boats and sang "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"

Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.

Twist, twist, twist your boat... Bounce, bounce, bounce your boat... Sway, sway, sway your boat... Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle your boat... Tickle, tickle, tickle your boat...

Finally we read I Love Trucks!  by Philemon Sturges. As we read, we talked about our favorite trucks, mine is the Bookmobile! We took a trip to the stars with our action rhyme “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom.”

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom (rub hands together, back and forth while pointing them up in the air) We’re going to the moon. Zoom, Zoom, Zoom (rub hands together, back and forth while pointing them up in the air) We’re going to the moon. If you want to take a trip, (wave hand towards yourself) Climb aboard my rocket ship. (make stepping motions) Zoom, Zoom, Zoom (rub hands together, back and forth while pointing them up in the air) We’re going to the moon. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, (hold 5 fingers up and count down) Blast off! (jump up)

Then it was time to sing our goodbye song.

Our after storytime movie was the animated version of I'm Fast  by Kate & Jim McMullan.
