Fall and Winter Special Events for Teens at ICPL

Guys Read Book Club
Our mission: Matching ICPL guys with the appropriate books (and other readable things) in a fun, guys-only environment from noon-1 p.m. in Meeting Room E. With pizza. Aimed at guys in grades 5-8. Guys Read, a literacy initiative founded by children's author Jon Scieszka, is designed to draw attention to boys' literacy and to help boys become self-motivated, lifelong readers.
School's Out Date: Friday, Dec. 21.
During the School Year: Saturdays: Sept. 22, Oct. 27, Nov. 17, and Jan. 26.

Fox Soccer/FIFA Club for Teens
Join us in the Computer Lab where we'll choose a Fox Soccer match to replay, challenge others on FIFA12 for PS3, or just hang out and talk about the week's Football/Soccer results from 3-5 p.m. every Thursday in the Computer Lab from Sept. 13-Dec. 27 (except Nov. 22).

CoderDojo Iowa City/ICPL Coding Club
At a CoderDojo, young people learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more. This event will be aimed at grades 5-8, though older students are also welcome to attend, from 2-4 p.m. in the Computer Lab on Saturdays: Oct. 13, Nov. 10, Dec. 8, Jan. 12, Feb. 9, March 9, April 13, and May 11.

Teen Tech Zone
Want to try your hand at Facebook, blogging, or recording that song you wrote in your notebook last week? Curious about Twitter, Wikis, Digg or Delicious? Stop by Teen Tech Zone in from 1-4 p.m. in the Computer Lab on the Library’s second floor.
School's Out Dates: Friday, Nov. 9; Thursday, Dec. 20; Friday, Dec. 21; Wednesday, Dec. 26; Thursday, Dec. 27; Friday, Dec. 28; and Wednesday, Jan. 2.
During the School Year: Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. and Saturdays 1-4 p.m.

Crash Course Crafts
Need a break from technology? Emily will be here to help you unplug with a bunch of fun quick crafts from 1-4 p.m. in the Computer Lab on the Library’s second floor. Try your hand at beginner knitting, friendship bracelets, duct tape designs and felties. For grades 7-12 during Teen Tech Zone hours.

Teen Film – “Elf”
Buddy was a baby who stowed away in Santa's toy bag and ended up at the North Pole. The elves raise him as one of their own, but when he begins to notice his differences to the other elves he goes to New York City to find his birth father in this sweet holiday comedy.
