Here’s a novel idea: take the night off from making dinner and go out to eat instead. Better yet, support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation at the same time. The Foundation has partnered with local restaurants for our Eat Out to Read fundraising program. On Wednesday, September 19, dine at Hudson’s, 482 Highway 1 West in Iowa City, between 5 and 10 p.m. and a portion of the sales will be donated to the Library. Takeout orders count, too. For more information, call the Library at 319-356-5200.

Holds that arrive at the Library during this time can be found by inquiring at the Help Desk at the downtown Library or on the Bookmobile when our Fall Schedule begins.

By 1908, the City of Iowa City had laid down 12 miles of streets, 23 miles of sewage system, and 35 miles of permanent sidewalks; an investment of $580,520 or about $15 million in today’s dollars. One can only guess how many detours those horses and buggies had to endure, but one thing is certain: progress continues!
