In the event of a life threatening emergency like a heart attack or choking, every minute before help arrives is important. What do you do after calling 911? In recognition of National CPR Day on June 6, the Iowa City Public Library and the Johnson County Ambulance Service will host two potentially life-saving workshops that day in Meeting Room A. Both workshops will be led by paramedics from Johnson County Ambulance.   STOP the Bleed: 9 to 9:45 a.m.; 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

The Iowa City Public Library’s summertime outdoor reading series, Stories in the Park, will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. June 4 through August 3 at the following locations: Monday at Willow Creek Park, 1177 Teg Dr. Wednesday at Wetherby Park, 2400 Taylor Dr. Friday at Mercer Park, 2701 Bradford Dr. There won’t be Stories in the Park or Bookmobile service on Wednesday, July 4.

Come celebrate digital art during the Iowa Arts Festival at the Iowa City Public Library. The Library will officially open the new Digital Media Lab from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2. Located where the Computer Lab used to be, the renovated Digital Media Lab is an open, flexible workspace with technology for creating digital media projects, giving users access to programs and technology they might not have at home.

Are you ready to rock? The Iowa City Public Library’s 2018 Summer Reading Program, Libraries Rock!, will be held June 1 through August 11. Pre-registration begins May 24. You may begin logging books on June 1, but prizes won’t be available for distribution until June 4.

The Iowa City Public Library Bookmobile won’t be in service May 25 through June 3 because of scheduled vehicle maintenance, collection updates, and staff training. During this seasonal break, Bookmobile items can be returned at the downtown Library or to the Library’s remote drop boxes. Holds that arrive at the Library during this time can be found by inquiring at the Help Desk at the downtown Library or on the Bookmobile when our Summer Schedule begins.

Johnson and Linn County libraries will make reading a social activity this summer with #CorridorReads. Beginning May 24, participating libraries in the two counties will use the #CorridorReads hashtag when posting on their social media platforms with the goal of generating more engagement amongst libraries and their patrons, increasing awareness of libraries throughout the Corridor.

Here’s a novel idea: take the day off from preparing Sunday’s breakfast and go out to eat instead. Better yet, support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation at the same time. The Foundation has partnered with local restaurants for our Eat Out to Read fundraising program. On Sunday, May 20, visit Timmy Flynn’s Red Pepper, 517 S. Riverside Dr. in Iowa City, anytime between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a home-style breakfast, and a portion of the sales will be donated to the Library.

Beginning today, May 1, Coralville and Iowa City public libraries now offer Kanopy to service area residents. Kanopy is a streaming video service that has more than 30,000 films and counting, specializing in independent films, documentaries, classic and early films, international cinema, and educational videos. Users can stream up to eight movies per month. Apps are available for iOS, Android, and Roku. As a user you can also create watch lists, share films on social media, embed clips in websites, make playlists, and comment or rate a film.
