Planning for elderhood was once as simple as writing a will. But those days are gone. Today our lives are not only longer but also more complicated. In order to stay independent in our decision making and not be rushed in the event of a life crisis, it’s essential to plan ahead.

Advanced care planning brings you peace of mind and is a great gift to those who love you. In this series of four workshops participants will engage with each other, guest speakers, research and interactive activities to consider what they want from life during their elderhood, explore ways to realize your plans and communicate them with your support teams - including family, friends, health care providers, and others.

Registration for this series is required to receive the workbook at the first session. PLEASE SEE THE CALENDAR EVENT ON SEPT. 6 TO REGISTER. You only need to register once for the entire series.

Attendance at all 4 part of the series is strongly suggested as each session builds on the previoius one.

Facilitators: Kaleigh Gilmore, LMSW, Social Worker at Oaknoll Iowa City and Barbara Stein, MLS, TRAIL of Johnson County Board member.

Workshop 2 focuses on what plans you should have in place. TRAIL member Joni Jones will share how her good planning helped her family when she faced a medical emergency. Attorney Samantha Norris, from BrownWinick Law Firm, will share which legal documents need to be in place and why they need to be current with your wishes.

This event is sponsored by the Iowa City Public Library, TRAIL of Johnson County, The Iowa City Senior Center, and BrownWinick Law Firm, Coralville.
