05/13/2023 11:00am 05/13/2023 12:30pm CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER--ICPL History Walks--The Pest Houses of Iowa City Join us for a late-spring nature walk in Hickory Hill Park, where we will visit the spot where one of Iowa City's pest houses was located, and learn a little about the history of infectious illness and treatment. Pest houses were used to quarantine patients suffering from infectious diseases such as small pox; this house was used in the early 1900s. Along the way, various flora (and fauna, if we're lucky!) will be pointed out. We will meet at the Conklin Lane parking lot (800 Conklin Lane) at 11:00 a.m., and then proceed to the site. The walking portion will be at least 45 minutes round trip, it includes some hills, and is of a slight moderate difficulty.
