School's out, the Summer Reading Program has begun, and now you're looking for a good young adult novel. You've come to the right place!
Here's a collection of some lists of various shapes and sizes for your young adult book selection pleasure:
- YALSA's (the young adult branch of the American Library Association) Best Books for Young Adults and other book lists offer a comprehensive look at the newest young adult book offerings.
- VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates) has Perfect Tens lists for the past several years posted on their site.
- The Denver Public Library has an awesome selection of lists, read-alikes, and award winners.
- The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh also has an awesome site full of genre lists, read-alikes, and reviews.
- Bitch Magazine recently published a list of 100 Young Adult Books for the Feminist Reader.
- This USA Today list is aimed at adult readers of young adult books.
- This list suggests young adult titles that correspond with the Summer Reading Program theme, "Own the Night."
- NPR just assembled a nice selection of young adult books about friendship to choose from this summer.
- The 2012-2013 Iowa Teen Award and Iowa High School Book Award lists are also out.
- YALSA just put out a new app for iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad that's all about recommending the best young adult fiction.
And don't forget to check out the book lists on the back wall of the Young Adult section in the library, with such themes as "Chick Lit with Bite (but No Vampires)," "Literary Hellions," "Dystopias," and "Zombies Attack!"
