The Library is currently seeking spellers or spelling teams as well as sponsors for the teams to compete in this final year of the event. Anyone can sponsor a team by paying the entry fee. Sponsorship deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012. Contact Patty McCarthy in the Library Development Office at 319-356-5249 or pmccarthy@icpl.org for more information about sponsoring a team or to register as a speller in this popular event.

The Iowa City S-P-E-L-L-S Adult Spelling Bee is a fundraiser for the Iowa City Public Library hosted by the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation. Pre-registered teams of three will compete for the Iowa City Spells Trophy. Book donations for The Book End bookstore will also be accepted at the event. The Library and the Friends Foundation wishes to thank Hands Jewelers for its generous sponsorship of the event once again this year, and owner Bill Nusser for again serving as the Master of Ceremonies for this final year of the spelling bee.

We welcome everyone in the community to join in the fun on February 16. We would also love to hear from anyone who was involved in the bee in years past.
