Press ReleaseStarting June 6, Children Ride for Free With Their ICPL Library Card Through the Summer Library Bus Program

With the Iowa City Public Library card, kids have a ticket to ride an Iowa City Transit bus for free, all summer long.

The Library offers free bus rides to children up to 12th grade and their accompanying adult caregivers on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., from Tuesday, June 6 to Thursday, August 24, 2023. Bus riders should show their Iowa City Public Library card to the bus driver to gain free access to the bus.

Sam Helmick, Community & Access Services Coordinator at ICPL, states, “Our goal at the Iowa City Public Library is always to enhance accessibility. We are delighted to provide transportation support to all families with children throughout the summer.”

The Summer Library Bus Program is an extension of the Library's year-round “Ride and Read” program, catering to patrons of all ages. The “Ride and Read” program offers two free bus passes each week. Patrons only need to present their Library card at any service desk in the Downtown Library to receive a bus pass for their ride home."
